The Experience Center

An Interactive Art Gallery for All Ages!

The Lange Family Experiencenter offers a welcoming space where children and their caregivers can explore art together year-round. Through hands-on, informal learning experiences, families are invited to discover, create and connect in a relaxed museum setting designed for shared exploration and play.

Exhibitions encourage curiosity, collaboration and conversation, making art an accessible and engaging experience for visitors of all ages.

Yeck Artist-in-Residence Fellowship

The Yeck Artist-in-Residence (AiR) fellowship engages a local artist with museum guests, particularly families and children in DAI’s nationally renowned Lange Family Experiencenter (LFE) gallery. The program provides a paid opportunity for greater Dayton area artists to create an original, participatory art project. By designing and offering an interactive and engaging hands-on creative arts experience, the AiR supports families’ and children’s connection to museum spaces.

Residency length varies. For more information please contact our Learning & Visitor Experience Director, Dr. Shannon Peck-Bartle.

Current Workshops

Join local artists Kyle and Kelly Phelps for a hands-on, two-day workshop exploring the process of molding and casting. Participants will learn the basics of mold-making while creating a lifecast of their hand, resulting in a storytelling sculpture. All materials are provided by the Dayton Art Institute and no prior experience is needed.

Learn More About the Artists

Kyle and Kelly Phelps are identical twin artists and professors based in Ohio whose collaborative work spans ceramics, sculpture and mixed media. Their practice explores the experiences of blue-collar workers, race relations and everyday life, shaped by their upbringing in a Midwestern factory town. They are the current Yeck Artists in Residence and their work is also on view in the Lange Family Experiencenter.
